UK prime minister: ‘strong indications’ Iran played a part in the RAF Fairford incident
Britain’s prime minister says there are “strong indications” that Iran played a part in the incident at RAF Fairford, the Gloucestershire base US bombers have flown from, where five men were arrested on Sunday and later bailed. He gave no details, Iran denies any role, and on Thursday police arrested a sixth man.

There are strong indications that Iran played a part in what happened over the weekend at RAF Fairford.
UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham, to the BBC, 30 Sep 2026
Note
The prime minister went further than the police. Andy Burnham told the BBC there are “strong indications that Iran played a part” in what happened at RAF Fairford over the weekend, when five British men in their early twenties were arrested near the base after police were alerted to three suspicious vans. He gave no details. Police found petrol but no explosives, and the five were released on strict bail; one of them had called 999 himself.
Iran’s foreign minister said Britain was barking up the wrong tree. On Thursday, counter-terror police arrested a 27-year-old UK-Iranian dual national in London on suspicion of preparing terrorist acts and said they are considering all angles, including foreign state involvement. No evidence has been made public, and no one has been charged.
Why it matters
A British prime minister is pointing at Iran over an incident at an air base used by US bombers, while the public has seen no evidence and Iran denies it. That puts the war’s edge on British soil, on a word no one has yet backed up in public.
