Note
The World Food Programme said an air strike on Saturday, Oct 3, hit its trucks carrying food aid in Sudan’s South Kordofan state, killing one driver. The trucks were “clearly marked as humanitarian vehicles,” the agency said, according to Al Jazeera. The convoy was travelling between two cities held by the Sudanese Armed Forces.
WFP did not say who carried out the strike. The extent of the damage was still being assessed, and the agency has called for an investigation. Both the army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces have increasingly used drones in the war, and fighting in the Kordofan region has intensified since late 2025.
Why it matters
Aid convoys are one of the few lifelines into Kordofan. A deadly strike on marked UN trucks makes the next delivery harder to send.
