Hormuz: UKMTO logs two more tanker hits Friday — fire and blackout, then a strike off Oman
UK Maritime Trade Operations issued two Attack warnings on Friday. In the morning, a tanker leaving the Strait of Hormuz was hit by an unknown projectile that set off a small fire and knocked out its power. In the evening, a crude oil tanker 4 nautical miles east of Oman was hit on the port side. Both crews are reported safe. Neither warning says who fired.
Key facts
- 148-26 (Attack · master · 1122 UTC / 7:22 AM ET Fri Oct 2)
- Within the Strait of Hormuz · a tanker on an outbound transit struck by an unknown projectile · small fire and blackout onboard · fire extinguished, vessel underway · no reported casualties or environmental impact

- Both
- Authorities are investigating · vessels advised to transit with caution and report suspicious activity to UKMTO
- Not disclosed
- Ship names, flags, cargo and who fired — on either warning. UKMTO has not identified the tanker or said who may have been responsible (GCaptain, on 148-26)
- Tally (GCaptain, Oct 2)
- At least six vessels struck since Sunday, Sep 28 — counting Friday’s 148-26 strike, a Thursday tanker fire, and four strikes on Sunday and Monday that surfaced through delayed UKMTO warnings. Published before 149-26
- Position
- UKMTO published no coordinates for either strike, so this note carries no map pin
The Master of a tanker has reported being struck by an unknown projectile, whilst conducting an outbound transit, resulting in a small fire and blackout onboard. The fire has since been extinguished and the vessel is underway.
UKMTO Warning 148-26 — Attack, 2 Oct 2026
Note
Friday added two more Attack warnings to the UKMTO record. Warning 148-26, from a master’s report at 1122 UTC, says a tanker on an outbound transit of the Strait of Hormuz was struck by an unknown projectile, resulting in a small fire and a blackout onboard. The fire was extinguished and the vessel got underway again. No casualties or environmental impact were reported.
Warning 149-26, from a master’s report at 2142 UTC, says a crude oil tanker was struck by an unknown projectile on the port side, 4 nautical miles east of Oman. All crew were reported safe and no environmental impact was reported at the time. In both cases authorities are investigating, and UKMTO advises vessels to transit with caution and report anything suspicious.
Neither warning names the ship, its flag or who fired. GCaptain, reporting on 148-26, counted at least six vessels struck in and around the strait since Sunday, Sep 28: four strikes on Sunday and Monday that surfaced through delayed UKMTO warnings, a tanker fire on Thursday, and Friday’s hit. That count was published before 149-26 was issued.
This is the same week that produced the four-tankers-in-two-days count and Trump’s claim of “virtually total control” of the strait. That earlier note stays on the board.
Why it matters
Two Attack warnings in one day — fire and blackout in the Strait, then a crude tanker hit off Oman — and still no name for the ship or the shooter. The count of struck vessels keeps rising faster than anyone explains it.
