Note

NOAA SWPC issued a Geomagnetic K-index of 4 warning at 0115 UTC October 13 and extended it twice, most recently at 2058 UTC, to 1200 UTC (8 AM ET) October 14, citing persistence. SWPC lists possible weak power grid fluctuations and aurora at high latitudes such as Canada and Alaska.

As of 12:48 UTC October 14, NOAA's scales show no radio blackout, radiation storm or geomagnetic storm activity, with 10% odds of minor and 1% odds of major radio blackouts and 5% odds of a solar radiation storm today.

Quiet with a hum. ECDO readers: this is ordinary solar weather.

Why it matters

K4 is below storm level. Aurora may reach Canada and Alaska; grids see only weak fluctuations, SWPC says.
