Note
Yemen's Houthis said on Thursday they had attacked Saudi Arabia's Ras Tanura refinery, which Reuters describes as the largest in the kingdom, along with the Rabigh refinery, an Aramco facility at Abqaiq, King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh and King Fahd International Airport in Dammam. A sixth claimed attack hit a military site in Najran, spokesperson Yahya Saree said.
Saudi authorities have not confirmed the claims, Reuters reports, and Al Jazeera says there was no independent corroboration. The Saudi-led coalition said on Thursday it had intercepted two Houthi ballistic missiles fired toward Riyadh and a cruise missile toward the kingdom's western region.
The Houthi statement says the group will keep striking deep inside Saudi Arabia until what it calls the Saudi aggression and blockade of Yemen end. It came days after senior Saudi and Iranian officials met in Tehran and agreed to resolve regional differences through dialogue, Al Jazeera notes.
Why it matters
If any of the claimed hits landed, the war in Yemen has reached the refineries the world's oil market leans on.
