HVO: Kīlauea pause continues; summit tilt slows after episode 54
USGS Hawaiian Volcano Observatory’s 31 August 2026 update (8:30 AM HST, 2:30 PM ET) says Kīlauea is not erupting: the Halemaʻumaʻu summit eruption remains paused. Alert level is ADVISORY; aviation color is YELLOW. UWD tilt recorded 4.0 μrad of inflation since the end of episode 54, after 12.7 μrad of deflation during that episode. Inflation slowed about 2:00 AM HST on 31 August; slow deflation began just before 7:00 AM HST. Tilt is crustal strain at a named volcano. It is not polar motion and not evidence of ECDO.
