ESA: South Atlantic magnetic weak spot grows by nearly half of Europe since 2014
ESA reports that its three identical Swarm satellites, measuring the field from core to magnetosphere for 11 years, show the South Atlantic Anomaly has expanded by an area nearly half the size of continental Europe since 2014. The anomaly expanded steadily from 2014 to 2025; a region of the Atlantic southwest of Africa weakened faster since 2020. IGRF-14, as published by Beggan et al. in Earth, Planets and Space (2026), places the surface total-field minimum at 22,071 nT at 26.22°S, 60.03°W (northeastern Argentina) at epoch 2025.0. That is a magnetic weak spot, not a pole reversal, and not proof of ECDO.
