UNIFIL: IDF fire jumps to 84 projectiles in a day — fortifying north of Blue Line
In a 3 September 2026 UN News readout citing Spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric, UNIFIL reported a marked deterioration along the Blue Line, with Israeli forces intensifying their military footprint in violation of Security Council resolution 1701. UNIFIL said hostilities eased after a late-June Framework Agreement but calm proved fragile and violence rose sharply in August. The mission recorded 56 projectiles from the Israeli military on 1 September and 84 the following day. The UN said no projectile launches by Hezbollah militants have been detected since 21 June, while peacekeepers continue to record daily Israeli violations of Lebanese airspace plus airstrikes, ground activity, and naval operations. Dujarric said a particular concern is continued consolidation and fortification of Israeli positions north of the Blue Line, including new infrastructure and engineering works, with peacekeepers observing individuals who appear to be Israeli civilian personnel carrying out demolition work in support of military operations. He said the extensive Israeli military presence north of the Blue Line constitutes a violation of resolution 1701 and of Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, and the UN calls for IDF withdrawal from all positions north of the Blue Line. Despite tensions, UNIFIL facilitated 20 humanitarian missions Monday–Wednesday, 16 in the Mission’s western sector.
