MONUSCO rushes Bamande after ADF clashes — UN: Ebola growing exponentially

Lane: conflictBamande, Ituri Province, Democratic Republic of the Congo

At the UN Spokesperson’s daily press briefing on 1 September 2026, Emergency Relief Coordinator Tom Fletcher told Member States the Ebola epidemic in the Democratic Republic of the Congo is growing exponentially and cannot be answered incrementally, calling for a sustained large-scale operation with political will, access, and resources. Humanitarian colleagues said violence in eastern DRC continues to drive displacement and complicate the Ebola response. In Ituri, MONUSCO quickly deployed two rapid reaction teams after clashes between Congolese Armed Forces supported by the Ugandan army and suspected ADF militia members in Bamande, then deployed a mobile operating base and placed a medical team on standby in the key crossroads town.
